ACOM Sponsored Excursion to Rochester Minnesota
June 18, 2011
A group of ten from the TwinCities Armenian community met with six from the Rochester Armenian community for a day excursion in Rochester, MN. The main focus of the trip was to visit the 'Gift of Life Transplant House", a dream that became reality for Ed Pompeian. Ed welcomed the group to the facility and after a brief talk on how his dream became real, took us on a tour of the two houses that make up the facility. A marvelous and impressive "dream come true".
Following a lunch at a local Mediterranean restaurant, the group then toured "Maywood" the home of the Mayo brothers and their families, founders of the Mayo Clinic. A truly magnificent home, full of inovations and history.
The group was then treated to a bit of a "behind the scenes" tour of the Mayo clinic buildings complex. Since we were their on a Saturday, the clinic facilities were pretty empty which made for a better opportunity to really see the buildings. Of particular note was the Plummer Building with its very ornate entrance and entry hall.
The excursion was a treat for all who came. Many thanks to Mark Weirsbeck who organized the event and to Hagop Tabibian for his tour of the Mayo clinic buildings.
